Hapag-Lloyd expedition
The HANSEATIC trio is the expedition heart of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises: small ships, ice class PC6, Zodiac landings and a focus on nature rather than the show stage.
As of: August 2026.
What expedition means
Flexible daily planning by weather and ice, Zodiac shore landings, lectures and guidance from an expedition team. Fewer fixed “port shopping stops”, more remote destinations.
- Good fitness for shore landings helps
- Technical clothing and layering
- Expect weather-driven plan changes
Arctic, Antarctic & beyond
Polar regions are the flagship offering. There are also expedition formats in other remote areas – depending on the annual programme. EUROPA/EUROPA 2 remain more ocean/culture itineraries.
Who is it for?
Nature and photography fans, guests with expedition ambition and a luxury-expedition budget. Less suitable for family entertainment or club-ship atmosphere.

Do I need expedition experience?

HANSEATIC or EUROPA?
HANSEATIC = expedition/nature. EUROPA/EUROPA 2 = ocean luxury and culture ports. Very different trip types under one brand.
